The exhibition will present the monastic life of Old Believer Orthodox monks at the end of the 19th century in Tavajärvi, Kuusamo, and especially about the last hermit monk who became familiar to the people of Kuusamo.
The prayer monk Vasseli lived alone in his dismal hut in Kuusamo at the beginning of the 20th century but became known to the people of Kuusamo thanks to the merits of his many skills.
The exhibition is looking for an answer to the question of what kind of cultural heritage the Old Believer monks left to the people of Kuusamo, in addition to strong potato onions.
This exhibition is a part of Karhuntassu’s exhibitions at the Koski gallery on 9.1 – 30.3. 2024.
This exhibition is only in finnish.
